AI prompts for small business that produce usable work
The difference between a frustrating AI answer and a useful one is usually context. A strong prompt tells the model what it is doing, what facts it may use, what constraints matter, and what the finished output should look like.
Customer replies
Give the AI the exact customer message, the facts it may use, the tone you want, and the next action you want the customer to take. Add a rule that it must not invent prices, policies, or promises.
Follow-up
Tell the AI how long it has been, what was previously sent, and what would count as a useful next step. Ask for one short version first instead of a long sales sequence.
Marketing
Start with one real customer problem and one specific service. Local-business content gets stronger when the prompt includes the service area, season, common objection, and a truthful call to action.
SOPs and operations
Feed the AI messy notes, then ask it to separate purpose, prerequisites, exact steps, quality checks, handoff, and exceptions. Review the result against how the work is actually done before using it.
Lead qualification
Ask for the smallest set of questions that tells you whether the lead is a fit and what is needed to quote accurately. More questions are not automatically better.
A simple prompt formula
Role + task + real context + constraints + desired format + “do not invent unknown facts.” That structure is more useful than stacking buzzwords like expert, viral, or world-class.
